READY Mountaineering Team raise over £2,000 in Haute Route Challenge

In April 2010, as part of a challenge to raise funds for READY, David Hill (Trustee), Bill Buckler, Gary Spicer and Andrew Glass set out to complete the Mont Blanc to Matterhorn Haute Route challenge in just 6 days.

Crossing 23 glaciers, a distance of 114 miles and 14,000 m of ascents and descents, the Haute Route between Chamonix and Zermatt is the highest ‘High Altitude’ route in Europe.

Using a mixture of ski touring, climbing, walking and pretty much anything else you can think of to cross ravines along the way, and staying in High Altitude Refuge huts, the READY team completed this huge challenge in an amazing 5 days.

After all they had been through in the mountains, the intrepid team then discovered that they couldn’t get back to the UK.  All aircraft were grounded due to the ash cloud from the volcano at Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland!

Undeterred the team’s determination spurred them on. They managed to car share their way across France with an English Doctor returning home from the Alps in less than 10 hours!

The team raised more than £2,000 for READY through donations to their Just Giving Fundraising page.
