ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL GOLF DAY AT FULWELL
The 33rd annual READY Colin Herridge Memorial golf day took place at a warm and sunny Fulwell Golf Club on Thursday 3rd April. Over 100 golfers took part in a shotgun start and were blessed with the golf course in wonderful condition.
By happy coincidence, the team winners were Fulwell Golf Club consisting of Andrew Wilson, Murray Cook, Charlie Phillips and Richard Varney, who won by two points from Frost Meadowcroft (Shaun Wolf, Simon Smith, Dave Jones and Rob Henderson), with Windlesham Wonders (David Gray, David Hodgkins, Keith Doran and Fiesal Bachus) finishing a further point behind in third place.
Nearest to the pin for the men went to David Andrews and the Ladies equivalent was won by Susanna Gillett. Nearest the pin in two shots on a par four went to Hugh Mitchell.
Nineteen golfers managed to “Beat the Pro” on the iconic ninth hole.
Last year’s Fulwell Captain Andrew Wilson had chosen READY as his charity for the year, with a view to providing a legacy of introducing disability golf to Fulwell. This initiative has been a year in the making, more of which later.
Two golfers from the Golf Trust joined us for the day. Both Jason and Phil have represented England at Disability Golf, and they were on the tenth tee to demonstrate how to play golf in Phil’s wheelchair, and a person from each of the 25 teams was invited to have a go. The winner of the longest drive in the wheelchair was Adam Varney.
The first disability day at Fulwell will take place at the club on Tuesday 27th May, when 32 disability golfers, aged 15-21, will be invited to try out golf. No experience is necessary, so if anyone would like to fill these places they should email vjcodrington@outlook.com.
